The impact of shame

Shame is when you have internalised the belief that there is something fundamentally wrong with you. This belief can be created by situations, experiences, or people in your life.

Shame damages self esteem and can cause a feeling of not being worthy. This can have a huge impact on your life and limit you in moving forwards. Shame is often created in relationships with people in our lives but this also means that it can be healed in relationships too.

A safe and trusted therapeutic relationship with a qualified therapist is instrumental in the healing from shame. It empowers you to recognise where your feeling of shame comes from and encourages a deep exploration of your feelings around it. In this process, you can gain a sense of power and begin to choose to not allow it to control your life.
